Character Education
KYLA is committed to developing young people with strong character. Program activities will provide students with experiences that encourage strong character development.

• Students will develop and enhance their core character beliefs.
• Students will be committed to, and live by, healthy and positive lifestyle behaviors.
• Students will recognize the importance of and be committed to continuous self-improvement.
• Students will learn how to make wise personal choices and decisions.
• Students with strong character will serve as role models to others.

Leadership Education
KYLA is committed to providing a comprehensive educational experience that fosters leadership development. Program activities will provide students with knowledge, behaviors, and motivation to participate in the leadership process.

• Students will demonstrate the ability to influence, persuade, and motivate others.
• Students will demonstrate effective communication, teambuilding, and collaborative skills.
• Students will serve as agents for positive change.
• Students will develop problem solving, risk taking, and perseverance skills to overcome obstacles.
• Students will develop an understanding of the commitment to participating in leadership and social change for the common good.

Civic Education
KYLA is committed to instilling a civic attitude among participating students. Program activities will provide students with the knowledge, skills, and civic virtues necessary to fulfill the duties of citizenship in our American democracy.

• Students will recognize and understand the privileges, duties, and responsibilities of citizenship.
• Students will become knowledgeable and have an understanding of public issues.
• Students will develop an understanding of the importance of pursuing positive social change for the common good.
• Students will effectively demonstrate the behaviors and skills necessary to be an active citizen leader.
• Students will develop an understanding of the importance of civic values that are required to be active citizens in our democracy.
