HISTORY As McDonald's® franchisees, Rick and Gail Kuehl have provided financial backing to many programs and projects, which were designed, for community betterment. During the past twenty-eight years, their contributions have benefited programs ranging from Scouting to Project Graduation; from the Early Childhood Development Center to the Kansas Regents Honors Academy; and from Environmental Call to Action to Fort Hays State University Sternberg Museum Children's Discovery Room. These commitments are made possible by a stable base of local McDonald's customers. The Kuehls have always operated their restaurants in agreement with the philosophy of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc who insisted "it's only good business to return something back to the community which patronizes your restaurant." In 1988, the Kuehls founded the Classroom Grants Program in hope of encouraging teachers to explore innovative teaching methods. As one of the nation's largest employers of young people, McDonald's has a special interest in seeing that students are receiving the best education possible. Since its inception, the Classroom Grants program has awarded $112,842.53 towards 325 projects. Grant projects have ranged across all subject areas including: reading, science, mathematics, writing, music, art, biology and social skills. The Classroom Grants Program is administered by McDonald's of Colby, NorthHays, Russell, SouthHays and WaKeeney, which has no direct connection to McDonald's Corporation. By taking part in the application process, the applicant agrees to the use of their grant program, along with their school name and location in any and all media (including, without limitation, print, broadcast and Internet), now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity and throughout the universe for advertising and promotional purposes in connection with the grant program, without further compensation, and hereby release the applicant from any claims or liability arising out of or with respect to such use. |
